Shadow Gap LED Lighting is part of the Shadow Gap Drywall Range by SA Solutions.
Seamless Abutment by SA Solutions creates the ideal channel for concealed LED strip lighting at skirting, ceiling and feature wall junctions. The LED source sits completely hidden inside the shadow gap recess, with light washing outward along the adjacent surface – no visible fittings, no surface-mounted channels, no clips.
Because Seamless Abutment profiles sit within the plasterboard build-up rather than on top of it, the recess is clean, consistent and precisely dimensioned from end to end. There is no gather, no filler buildup and no undulation to interrupt the light line. The result is an even, unbroken wash of light along the entire length of the wall.
For LED installations, a wider shadow gap is recommended – typically 10mm or 12mm – to accommodate the LED strip and its adhesive backing while allowing the light to project outward effectively. The LED strip is fitted after decoration is complete, protecting the hardware from paint and construction dust during the build.
Shadow gap LED lighting is used across hotel lobbies, high-end residential interiors, commercial reception areas, restaurants and retail spaces – anywhere the designer wants atmospheric, architectural lighting without visible hardware. Low-level LED skirting in corridors and stairwells also serves as code-compliant wayfinding lighting, with a finish that reads as part of the wall rather than an add-on fitting.
Why gypsum profiles give better LED results
The quality of the light line depends entirely on the consistency of the channel it sits in. Aluminium and PVC shadow gap trims sit on the plasterboard surface. When skim coat or finishing compound is applied over the trim, it builds up unevenly along the edges, creating a ridge of filler – known in the trade as gather – that narrows or distorts the channel. The LED strip behind that uneven edge produces a light line that wobbles and varies along its length.
Seamless Abutment profiles sit within the plasterboard build-up. The channel is formed by the profile itself, pre-engineered to a consistent depth and width along its entire length. There is no filler buildup, no gather and no variation. The LED strip sits in a perfectly uniform recess, and the light line it produces is clean, straight and even from end to end.
